"CASUAL REMARKS"
"CASUAL REMARKS" is a project co-created by Julie Herrmann and Lucy McDonald, emerging from their summer as Part-Time, Temporary employees at the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” exhibition. Inspired by Abloh’s infamous “Question Everything” flag, "CASUAL REMARKS" is a direct response to “Figures of Speech” through questions raised by visitors and staff alike, with visuals sourced from online reviews of the MCA's Summer 2019 exhibition.
On February 21, 2020, Herrmann and McDonald held a flag ceremony that embodied Abloh's methods of institutional meta-critique, exploring layers of appropriation and anti-art.
